My Story
I support women of color in embracing healthier food choices and addressing the emotional and psychological factors that influence their health. I'm Afro Caribbean. My journey into health is really a story about family, roots, and discovering my passion. It began with a lifelong desire to make a meaningful impact on others, deeply inspired by my mother’s work as the nutrition officer for the government on the island of Montserrat. My early experiences were enriched by our West Indian cultures, like growing and preparing organic, nutrient-dense produce and rearing animals—an approach to health that emphasized the natural connection between body and environment. It wasn't just about eating your veggies – it was this whole-person approach that resonated with me.
My passion extends to epigenetics, specifically the ways in which historical trauma—particularly for marginalized communities, impacts health outcomes. I am intrigued by how generational trauma, current traumatic experiences, and environmental stressors can affect gene expression and health outcomes. Understanding the cultural factors that shape our food choices and how it can help us make healthier decisions while honoring our heritage. As a people we have consciously and unconsciously carried trauma over several generations. When we’re not aware of how we’re creating our lives to function and control physiological reactions this can result in a whole range of physical symptoms and other autoimmune diseases. We have learned to function in a state of disequilibrium which has been passed down to us and coded in our genetic makeup.
As a woman of color, this hits close to home. I actively do the work on a daily basis to show up as my best self from the inside out (mind-body). I started thinking about how I could help people like me, people whose health has been impacted by stress and trauma, feeling disconnected/frustrated with where they are at in their life, and wanting to feel better in their body. My goal? Make a lasting difference blending science and compassion to address the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, to help people heal not just their bodies, but their mind and spirits too.
